Who Are You?

How many times have you seriously wondered who you are, what your purpose is, or both?

You may not even be sure if there is a calling on your life at all. And, if there is, what is it?

Let’s first establish one thing:

If you are a born-again Christian, there is a calling on your life. The Lord really does have a purpose for you. A specific role to play, a calling. Once you can accept that it does exist, you will want to be in God’s perfect will for your life, and, of course, you will also need to know what it is. You will not want to fail or come short of achieving God’s purpose for you and for your life.

Eagles Wings Ministry is firmly based upon Salvation being the foundational key for all, and is a discipleship ministry appointed to teach and to help develop that calling in order that you reach the highest heights of that calling. First, the calling is identified and then established. Building stage by stage. Precept upon precept.

Many people who have a call upon their lives often doubt the truth of their calling and, of course, our enemy, Satan, most certainly does not want you to discover the fact that you are called, at all! He does not want you to discover that you have power over him, and most certainly the fact that you have the authority to uphold the sovereignty by which you are called! He will use any and all means to thwart your progress.

The Baptismal Font

Most of us understand that babies are the most vulnerable of people, and are easy targets. Satan will attack the babies in Christ at as earlier a stage as possible. As anyone is led or is even contemplating becoming born-again, Satan will become aware of that individual becoming a part of the body of Christ, and in that, a threat to him and his foul kingdom.

While serving at a ministry in Florida, and working in the sound booth I witnessed the baptism of several people coming to Christ through the confession of Jesus as their Saviour and the immersion in water. It was a very happy time for both the participants and the staff and congregation of that church. A celebration to be had!

The portable baptismal font itself was set at the front of the stage with steps leading up to it. To one side was the short line of those waiting to be baptized. Each was invited up the steps and into the font by an associate pastor who carried out the ceremony with joyful commitment. The new Christian was then helped out of the font and proceeded out of a side door of the church across a short walkway into an adjoining building where they were to dry off and change their clothes.

As I was observing this the Lord showed me something which disturbed me, and something of which the church seemed to be oblivious. Most of the congregation were caught up in the joy of the ceremony but they failed to see that as the new “babes in Christ” got out of the font and went to the adjoining building to change their clothes, nobody, nobody escorted them from one building to the other. In the natural, it was a short walk, but in the spiritual, these new babes in Christ were vulnerable and susceptible to the wiles of Satan.

Do you recall when you were baptized? and, if you do you, may perhaps recall having experienced a pang of doubt, almost as if you heard someone say “Well, nothing really happened did it?, You don’t feel any different do you?” Hopefully, if that ever happened you had already been given the instruction on how to deal with that attack. Recognizing who was speaking in your ear and, were able to bind him and cast him away from you. As we all know, one of Satan’s foul tactics is to create doubt. I do not know for a fact that any of those new believers suffered this attack, but there is a good chance that they did. I also do not know if they had been coached and made aware of this possible attack by Satan at the point where they give their lives to Jesus, I hope that they had already been taught and prepared for this. But wouldn’t it have been nice if a member of that church had escorted this new baby Christian to the other building? Protecting the vulnerability. They “walked across the open ground” with no escort! Don’t let this happen on your watch!

Worthiness

One of the doubts that Satan will often use is of accusing you by telling you that you are not worthy of what God has done or is doing for you.

Who do you think you are? Who are you that you think God would want you at all, let alone place any kind of responsibility upon you!”

He is accusing you of stepping above your station in life. But when you know, truly know how much the Lord God Almighty loves you and cares about you, you will be able to recognize the lies that are being told to you. Satan does not want you to understand how precious you are, not only to God but to the world itself. Satan does not want you to understand that there is a purpose for your life and that your purpose has been waiting for you to fulfil it from before the time that you were even born. He will try and put you down and discourage you, trying to make you doubt yourself and God.

The Truth of the Matter:

You will always find truth in the Bible. And the truth about you, your purpose, and your calling are beautifully laid out in Psalm 139.

Psalm 139

O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

This is one of the foundational Scriptures that we use in our Systematic Discipleship Program. It helps you truly understand how precious you are and that the world without you would be a much lesser place.

Now you know who you are!
