The Sous Chef

The word “sous” is a French word meaning “under”. The Sous Chef works under the guidance and the experience of the Master Chef. He carries out the instructions of the Master Chef and, with his authority in the way that he is instructed. Results will be exactly what the master instructed and commanded as long as the sous chef follows those instructions to the letter. His input is not requested or expected unless he is asked to respond.

We are God’s sous chefs. We are God’s labourers, and when we follow His instructions to the letter, we can achieve anything and everything, exactly as we have been instructed to do.

As Christians, we should adopt the same discipline to become like our master, the Lord Jesus Christ. And as we learn about Him, His ways and His teachings, we will be able to follow what he said in Mark 16:15 through 18:-

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

This is part of what is called “The Great Commission”. It is, the instructions given to Jesus’s “Sous Chefs”, you and me.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.  (Philippians 4:13)
