Introduction Through P.E.S.O.S.
It is crucial, when teaching a student, how to achieve a desired result, that any instructions given should be simple to understand. And, in line with our Systematic Discipleship Program, any instructions should also be given in a systematic manner. We use a pneumonic as a guideline in order that we can present these instructions in such a manner. The pneumonic that we use is “PESOS”. By adopting the format you see below we can use it to teach on virtually any subject or reference.
P. – Present. Present the objective. “Today we are going to nail a new fence board in place.”
E. – Explain. Explain how it is going to be achieved. – “We’re going to take a hammer, some nails, and the new board, and by holding the new board in place, we are going to attach it with nails, driving them home by using the hammer.”
S. – Show. Show, by example, how to do it. – “Watch me now.”
O. – Observe. Observe the student carrying out the operation. – “Okay, now it’s your turn.”
S. – Show again. Correcting any mistakes. “Tweaking” – “Very good, but this time drive the nails partway into the board and then hold in place so that you don’t have to juggle everything. Now watch me do it again.”
