One Hundred Percent

Often, 100% is spoken or written, regarding a person’s input, i.e., “100% effort.” This simply means that the person is committed to giving 100% of themselves or their means. It could refer to their physical effort, their attention to something, or some other such commitment.

However, when we consider this as a mathematical statement, we should understand that giving 100% of anything means everything. But the amount that we are able to give is totally dependent upon the amount that we have in our possession, or what is available from us to give. It’s not possible to give 150% when we only have 100%.  Likewise,  we cannot give 100% if we only have 50% of what is required. In all that we possess from our talents to our finances, from our goods and chattels, we can only give that maximum of 100% of it.

One of the worst mistakes that people make is committing beyond their means. Often they over-commit to a project or the amount of time they can apply to that project, bringing condemnation and/or guilt and disappointment to themselves or anyone to whom they have made that promise. If your promise is not kept,  you’ve broken it. Every promise is a covenant and something which the Lord regards very seriously. He promises that He will neither break a promise nor change what He has already promised.

(Psalm 89:34)  My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

Most Christians are ever-ready to help one another. But this can also be one more trap that Satan will lay for us if we are not diligent to ensure that we are able to completely fulfil our promise, our covenant. An unfulfilled promise or covenant is a broken one and there is no excuse for it being broken if we take care in that we are certain to be able to fulfil that promise at the outset – in other words, before you open your mouth!

We know that we can (literally) take God at His word. So rest assured that He expects us to have the same core value. Be careful that the kindness you have or the compassion for others does not lead you into Satan’s trap!
