Choices, Consequences, and Conclusions

Every day, each of us makes multiple choices. This is one of the things that makes us free and one of the amazing gifts that the Lord has given us. Even in a prison cell, a man can still make personal choices. Even in the midst of adversity, there are choices available. However, with every choice comes a consequence, the result or results of making that choice. It becomes obvious, or we should at least hope that it does become obvious, that making bad choices most usually brings bad consequences. The result of making good choices brings good consequences. There is also the fact of the conclusion, or conclusions, that follow each consequence, and in the same manner, there are good and bad conclusions.

If you consciously make a bad choice, you already know that there is going to be a bad consequence or consequences that follow. You already know that the conclusion will also be one that you do not desire. So why choose badly in the first place? It’s pretty certain that you will have heard someone say “well, I didn’t have a choice.” That’s not true!

There is always a way to escape from making bad choices and subsequently suffering those undesired consequences and conclusions. The Bible is full of examples where people made both good and bad choices. Of course, the very first bad one that was made was by Adam and Eve. This is the prime example of the consequence that the whole of mankind has and does pay the penalty for. However, even within this situation, the Lord God Almighty has given us a choice where we can freely choose the conclusion. By the simple act of making Jesus our Lord and Saviour we can choose to spend eternity with Him and our Father in heaven. Satan still is lord of the earth at this time but Jesus came and paid the price of our confinement. The conclusion of this, as our choice, is that we will no longer have that penalty to pay because Jesus has already paid it for us. Likewise, the consequence of not making that choice is to spend eternity in “the other place”. It’s pretty obvious which choice we should make, isn’t it? Or is it?

In the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 28, the Lord specifically outlines the consequences of making the right choices. And He has even made it more obvious in chapter 30, verses 15 through 19:

(Deu 30:15) See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
(Deu 30:16) In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
(Deu 30:17) But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
(Deu 30:18) I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.
(Deu 30:19) I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

He begins by revealing the choices between life and death and the consequences of those choices. What follows are instructions and, where the Lord says “I command thee…” He still allows choices but tells us if we would do what He instructs us to do, we will prosper and live a long and good life on this Earth and our children, our seed, will also live in the same manner. He even makes it more obvious which choice we should make. It seems like He is holding you by the shoulders and shaking you saying “choose life!”

Now,  you may be walking and prospering because you have made good choices and are benefiting from good consequences and receiving good conclusions to those good choices, but how many people are not in the same position as you?

If you are blessed enough to be in this prosperous position it is because you have learned and have benefited because of that. Education, (be it from the “school of hard knocks”,) by being given and receiving good Godly instructions and tuition. Sharing testimonies of how the Lord has prospered you and shown you that the path you take can benefit others. Being a living proof, a living example. Just as Jesus did. When we do this we are actually spreading the Gospel, and teaching others just how good the Lord really is, and how much He truly wants us all to prosper in all things through the knowledge of Him and His ways. Never to suffer, never to lack, never to be alone, or hungry, or thirsty. That is your rightful inheritance as His child. You just have to know it!

Verse 6 of the 4th chapter of book of Hosea tell us

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, …..

But look at what one of the many promises of God tells us in Luke, chapter 12, verses 27 through 32…

27) Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28) If then God so clothe the grass, which is today in the field, and tomorrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
29) And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
30) For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
31) But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
32) Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Ponder this for a moment, as Christians we all understand that the devil is our enemy and will use every means, fair and foul to achieve his goal to kill, steal, and to destroy. And, one of his methods is to keep you, us, in ignorance of your rightful inheritance. Over time, and most recently he has brought it to a point whereby the Bible and its life principles, moral values and good life instructions have been removed from our schools. Recently he has used yet another weapon that he favors in the form of a worldwide virus in which many believe that the fear of which has been exaggerated to such an extent that people are fearful of some of the most basic of human traits and protocols. He has discouraged the showing of one’s faith so that we cannot see the smile or the grimace, that we cannot recognize the instinctive visual of our faces which show so much about that person. But when faces are covered by a mask that has been repeatedly proved as being ineffective against transference, part of our natural recognition and assessment of a person, even their current situation, the natural ability to judge by body language has been attacked. This is not to say that certain things about this recent disease are not true, but, through national and international media the fear, another weapon of the devil, has been used against us when this media has exaggerated or even given false information. Again, refer back to verse 6 of the 4th chapter of book of Hosea:

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge

The very foundation of Eagles Wings Ministry, and our Systematic Discipleship program, guided by the Holy Spirit of God, endeavours to ensure that all of our students be given systematic tuition in the things of God, therefore increasing their knowledge of Him; therefore increasing their trust in Him; therefore increasing their faith in Him so that every choice that is made will be the right one. And, if there is ever any misunderstanding or lack of recalling His instructions, we know that He has even given us an instruction manual from which we learn and teach. It is called the Bible, and it is our responsibility to use it to teach about Him; and, once you are trained, yours to do the same!

Making the right choices, the best choices, is something that we should be constantly aware of. If we continue to study the Word of God and make our choices based on it, following the examples that are given within it, we should always make the best choice. Much of the Bible is a history lesson of when God’s children either chose to listen and learn from Him or not, together with the consequences of those choices. The inevitable conclusion will come. We just need to ensure that it is a good one based on forward-thinking, forethought from the knowledge that we have gained.
